I don’t think I would have made it through the past few years without the help of AFTA! They got me through some very difficult situations with my mother’s living arrangements. They always carried through and kept up with communication. They were there for me every step of the way. My mother has now passed but I am so grateful for this group of caring individuals. They know what they are doing and get it done. Also a special shout out to the gentleman that helped me deal with my mother’s home before going to ALF. They were amazing!! With Grace’s passing the relationship between AFT A and her family is drawing to a close. For the better part of eight years AFTA has been indispensable in helping Grace through life. As I am based in Maryland there was little in direct care I could do for her, but you folks have been with her throughout. Whether it was taking her to doctor appointments, buying personal items for her, visiting her at the Brennity, or supporting her in the hospital, I could always count on you to give her the care she needed. I have the highest regard for you all, and just want to say “great job,” and “thanks from all of Grace’s family.”

AFTA was a tremendous support during a very challenging time and I can’t express enough for the work they did. The individual I am the POA for has dementia and was struggling with paranoia and cognitive lapses. Danica and her colleagues provided insightful advice and acted as an objective advocate between this individual, myself, the care facility staff and even the financial advisor. I’m not sure I would have survived the ordeal without their support–it was well worth the money!

I have no family to tend to me should something happen so a few years ago I hired Danica and her capable crew just in case. I keep myself healthy but you never know. Danica is more than an advocate; she’s a friend. I trust her and her staff to oversee any care I require and to fulfill my final wishes. I’m ridiculously specific but it doesn’t faze Danica. She gets me and is, clearly, committed. I couldn’t ask for a more kind and devoted advocate.

After I was forced to take legal action against my mom’s power of attorney (my sister), my lawyer recommended Danica and Advocates for the Aging as my mom’s guardian. At first, I was skeptical. Danica and mom’s caseworker, Taylor, have been nothing short of amazing. I was able to work with them to make sure my mom was treated properly. They were easy to contact and they were always willing to assist me with my concerns. Sadly, my mom passed away last month. Thank you Taylor and Danica for looking out for our best interests.

I have been taking care of my late mother’s personal and financial affairs for the past few years. A few months ago, Mom suffered a fall and injured herself to the extent that she never fully recovered. Between the hospital, physical rehabilitation facility, and assisted living during COVID19 in which I couldn’t see her, and dealing with medical personnel, trying to understand medical insurance and paying her bills, there was a lot for me to do. I was close to the end of my rope stress-wise when I found out about Advocates for the Aging. I learned they could help me with some of these tasks that children of older parents have to deal with it. You don’t have to go it alone! They were there when I really needed help and I and will always appreciate that. We lost Mom not long after she was moved to a new assisted living home, but I think with the help of Advocates for the Aging, the transition was made much easier for all involved, and Mom finally found relaxation, peace, and contentment.

My mother’s guardian, Danica, literally saved our mother’s life and did what she could to help our family heal from the psychological, emotional and financial abuse one member of the family was inflicting on our mother. Ms. Scuderi and her team abide by the highest ethical standards and even though those standards can sometimes be inconvenient (and will certainly cause people who are trying to exploit an elder to stomp their feet and make false accusations) you will be grateful that you have such a trustworthy guardian in place. Ms. Scuderi is both warm and caring as well as tough and uncompromising when that is called for. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Our mother would have died an angry, bitter old woman were it not for Advocates for the Aging. Their intervention has led to our mother returning to her true, good-natured and loving self.
